Signet Mourning Ring

The use of the mourning signet ring has a long history from about the 15th century to the present day, but the height of their usage was during the 16th – 17th century. The style of the lettering (flat terminals specially on the S) is more typical of 16th century examples. However, many 17th century rings have a skull similar to yours which makes me think the most likely date is late 16th – early 17th century.
