Signet Mourning Ring
The use of the mourning signet ring has a long history from about the 15th century to the present day, but the height of their usage was during the 16th 17th century.
The style of the lettering (flat terminals specially on the S) is more typical of 16th century examples.
However, many 17th century rings have a skull similar to yours which makes me think the most likely date is late 16th early 17th century.
